Support from the Centre for Personal and Professional Development (CPPD)
There are a wide variety of courses run by CPPD many of which are open to Post doctoral researchers. A list of the courses can be found in the Postgrad and Postdoc programme booklet. To book a place on any staff development courses visit their website. PhD students also benefit from CPPD via the Graduate Development Programme to which the school programme is closely linked.
Support from the Careers Service
It’s never too early to start thinking about your career. Whether you are just starting to consider what options might be open to you as a researcher, or you have a clear idea about where you’d like to go, the University Careers Service offers researchers a variety of support. As well as a wide-range of careers events, workshops and employer presentations, you will also find a library of resources and helpful staff at Stuart House, where the Careers Service is based. Both postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers can book individual careers counselling sessions where they can discuss any aspect of their career in confidence.
Postdocs can see one of their dedicated Careers Adviser, Liz Simmonds or Madalaine Chapman. To book an appointment, please email pdocphys@careers.cam.ac.uk. These posts form part of the new careers provision for postdocs in the School. The programme includes a variety of new careers themed workshops tailored specifically for postdocs. Postgrads are entitled to see one of a number of Careers Advisers depending on their department and particular interests. To book an appointment telephone 01223 (3)38286 or 01223 (3)38283. - Vacancies Online – a searchable database of current vacancies aimed at Cambridge researchers, including archived vacancies
- Click – a targeted email alert service which you can tailor to your specific career interests
- Gradlink – an online database of Cambridge alumni in various careers who are happy to be contacted informally for networking and information.
