Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences (INIMS)

The Isaac Newton Institute was opened in July 1992 and is now firmly established as the UK’s national research institute for mathematics. It runs research programmes on selected themes in mathematics and the mathematical sciences, with applications in a very wide range of science and technology. From its inception, it was intended that the Institute should be devoted to the Mathematical Sciences in the broadest sense. In this respect the Institute differs significantly from similar institutes in other countries. A key criterion in the selection of scientific programmes is the extent to which they are interdisciplinary, bringing together research workers with very different backgrounds and expertise. It attracts leading mathematical scientists from the UK and from overseas to interact in research over an extended period.
