Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics (DPMMS)
The Department is made up of pure mathematicians alongside members of the Statistical Laboratory which is a Sub-department of DPMMS. In pure mathematics the main research groupings are in algebra, analysis, categories and logic, combinatorics, geometry and topology and number theory. The Statistical Laboratory houses groups in financial mathematics, operational research, probability and statistics.
DPMMS has a strong record of research over many years. It has been the home of four Fields Medallists; of these Professors Baker, Gowers and Thompson remain members of the Department. For further details, see:
