Department of Chemistry

The Department consists of a large number of internationally-recognised individual groups covering an exceptionally broad spectrum of chemical science ranging from molecular biology to atmospheric science. There is an enthusiastic research culture which is embracing new and challenging areas such as molecular informatics, nanoscience and chemical biology, has strong interactions with other academic disciplines and with industry, while at the same time maintaining a powerful presence in traditional core areas of chemistry. The strength of our industrial links is illustrated by the Centre for Molecular Sciences Informatics supported by Unilever, and by Pfizer's Institute of Pharmaceutical Materials.

The Department has benefited from an ambitious programme of expansion and refurbishment of the Chemistry buildings with some £56M of expenditure since 1999, creating world-class facilities and opportunities.
